Auction #53 – KidLit Cares: Project Critique from Victoria Rock, Founding Children’s Publisher & Editor-At-large, Chronicle Books

Welcome to KidLit Cares, an online talent auction to benefit the Red Cross relief effort to help communities recover from Superstorm Sandy. KidLit Cares was started by the very awesome Kate Messner, but I’m taking over Round 2. Agents, editors, authors, illustrators and other generous people have donated various services to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with donations being made directly to the Red Cross disaster relief fund. You can read more about KidLit Cares here.

Now, on to the auction!

Victoria Rock, Founding Children’s Publisher & Editor-At-large, Chronicle Books is editor of such projects as An Egg is Quiet (Dianna Hutts Aston & Sylvia Long), the “Ivy & Bean” series (Annie Barrows & Sophie Blackall), Little Pea (Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Jen Corace), Wave (Suzy Lee), Prisoners in the Palace (Michaela MacCall) and the “In My” board book series (Sara Gillingham & Lorena Siminovich),

For this auction, Victoria is offering up a personal project critique. She will review and send a written response to the project of the winning author and/or illustrator’s choice. (Complete picture book and toddler projects, first 5 chapters of novels. Victoria is also happy to do a portfolio review.)

Opening Bid: $30

This auction closes at 10pm Eastern Standard Time on November 26. Any bids placed after that time will be void.

If you’d like to bid on this auction, check the current high bid and place a higher bid by leaving your name and bid amount in the comments, along with some way to contact you (email, FB or Twitter…I’m not fussy.) Winners will be notified when the auction ends and should be prepared to make an online donation to the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund in the amount of the high bid at that time.  After you’ve made your donation, you’ll forward your receipt to me, and I’ll put you in touch with the person who donated the service you won so that the two of you can work out the details about how and when.   All services will be provided at the convenience of both the person making the donation and the auction winner, but this should happen within three months of the auction’s end unless something else is agreed upon by both parties.

Good luck and thanks for your help!

    JoAnne,
Thank you so much for organizing these extraordinary opportunities for such a good cause. I have a question about this action item. Just to confirm, is it for a written only – not verbal – critique? Is it possible to have a brief phone conversation with Victoria as well?
    Thanks again!
    Julie

    • Julie, I’m going to have to say it’s written only as per the description above (that came right from Victoria herself). The auction ends in just a few hours, so unless Victoria pops in to say otherwise, I think you should assume it’s only written.

  20. This auction is now closed. The winner is the highest bidder whose comment and high bid are posted directly above this “end of auction” notice (any bids that are posted after this notice are void). If you’re the winner, please make sure your contact information is correct, so I can get a hold of you to let you know you’ve won. Once I confirm to you in an e-mail that you are the high bidder, please make your donation in the amount of your bid to the Red Cross at the link below. Please don’t make your donation until after I confirm to you that you’ve won, just in case.

    https://www.redcross.org/donate/index.jsp?donateStep=2&itemId=prod10002

Once you have made your donation, please e-mail a copy of your receipt and the name/number of your auction to me at kidlitcares@joannelevy.com. Once I’ve received that, I will get in touch with the donor so you can connect and work out the finer details of your auction.

If you were not the winner, please consider still making a donation to the Red Cross—every little bit helps!

Thank you for your donations, efforts and for spreading the word about this important cause.

Maybe Victoria would even be willing to honor both bids at 10pm – just a thought/offer ….

      November 26, 2012 at 10:12 pm

      • Maria – if you are willing to match the winning $630 bid, I’ll ask Victoria if she would be willing to do a second critique (no guarantees, though – these are busy people!).
